The place behind the scent
Mount Si is a prominent place within the ancestral lands of the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe, who have lived on this land since time immemorial. In Lushootseed, the mountain is known as q̓əlbc, and it holds deep cultural and spiritual significance, including a key place in the Snoqualmie Tribe’s creation story.
Rising dramatically from the Snoqualmie Valley floor in North Bend, Washington, Mount Si sits on the western edge of the Cascade Range and is one of the most loved (and most hiked) peaks in the state, especially for Seattle-area day trips. The classic route is about 8 miles round trip with roughly 3,150 feet of elevation gain, winding through lush forest, older growth, and switchbacks that make you earn the view.
On clear days, the summit opens up to sweeping sightlines across the Snoqualmie Valley with glimpses toward the Olympics and Mount Rainier. In spring, you’ll often see hikers using Mount Si as training ground with their steady steps, strong lungs, and “one foot in front of the other” energy. Keep your eyes open for wildlife, and if you happen to spot mountain goats, admire them from a respectful distance. Yes, it’s a leg-burner. But it’s also a place that asks for a different pace that's steady, attentive, and grateful. Hike it like you’re visiting somewhere meaningful… because you are.
